Waxing: The Ins and Outs of Hair Removal

Waxing is one of the most popular forms of hair removal. It is a frequently requested esthetic treatment at spas worldwide. But if you’re looking for a hair waxing treatment or are an esthetician curious about becoming a licensed professional, you’re not alone! Learn all the basics you need to know about waxing!
Why to Wax
Waxing is a great way to remove body hair and provides a cleaner removal than shaving alone. Waxing also provides skin smooth enough not to require shaving for a few weeks. Waxing is not necessarily painful if done well, and it gives longer relief for hair in tougher areas.
Approaches to Waxing
When it comes to waxing, there are two main things to consider: the types of wax used and the body parts being waxed.
Frequent Waxing Locations
Underarm – Though shaving might seem preferable, underarm waxing is an even better solution to remove hair for longer periods. Instead of shaving daily, you can get an underarm treatment and be hairless for days.
Facial – For both men and women, facial hair such as the upper lip, the chin, the neck, the brow, and more are frequent targets.
Bikini/Brazilian – This waxing is used frequently in the summer and the beach season to target unwanted hair in the bikini area. Male versions (sometimes called “Bro-zilians”) are becoming more frequent.
Arm/Leg/Body Waxing – Chest/back waxing is a common target, particularly for men. Usually, waxing larger areas of the body requires different types of treatment. It can be time-consuming, but it provides a cleaner feeling to the body overall.
Types of Wax
Hard Wax – Hard wax can be applied without a strip to remove and tugs the hair without pulling the skin. Facial hair removal treatments typically involve the use of hard wax.
Soft Wax – Requiring a strip to remove, soft wax also helps remove dead skin cells from the surface. This treatment will tug at the skin and is used frequently on larger body parts.
